A new railway station for Galway

Look at what has been in the news in Galway. This new station will be quite near our school. We are going to design a station at school, then when the new station is built we can compare the new Oranmore station with our plans for the station! We think that will be exciting!
Look out for our artwork and discussion work we will be doing on this.

Clay trains

A new train in our class

One of our girls brought her train set from home, and some of the children in the class set it up and played with it this morning.  She also brought different kinds of engines.  We had a lot of fun with all of these.

SPHE: Galway Train Crash

There was a crash between a train and a car very near our school on Monday. Luckily noone was injured.   It happened at an un manned railway crossing.  We had a good chat today about how to stay safe at crossings, and especially how we should keep level crossing gates closed at all times.  We know now to be sure and look carefully in both directions when crossing railway lines and not to play on the railway lines.  We know that it is impossible for trains to stop quickly - they are very heavy and they travel very fast so they need time to stop.  Have a look at the newspaper articles we found on this incident:

Studying bridges

We are talking a lot about shapes, and about bridges.  Here is a bridge made from tangram shapes.

Keep on Track logos

Here are some of the great logos we designed for our Keep on Track project.  Mrs. Treacy's class designed great logos too.
